About P. Jo Anne Burgh, Esq.

Overview

After four years in a Hartford-based litigation firm, Attorney Burgh realized that the part of practicing law she loved best was legal research and writing. In 1997, she opened her own practice to provide these services to busy trial lawyers. Within a few months, she expanded this niche to include appellate work. Now, she is routinely contacted by lawyers throughout the state who seek assistance in the prosecution or defense of lawsuits and appeals.

In addition to researching legal issues and preparing briefs, Attorney Burgh’s practice often includes advising and assisting other attorneys in their representation at the trial and appellate courts, including formulating strategies and evaluating options. While the subject matter runs the gamut, certain issues surface again and again: construing judgments, interpreting statutes, assessing evidentiary rulings, evaluating whether the record supports the conclusions reached by the trial court. Moreover, as an experienced appellate lawyer, Attorney Burgh knows how to review a file and determine what issues—if any—are viable on appeal, as well as how to present them effectively.

A long-time Connecticut resident, Attorney Burgh resides and practices in the Hartford area. When she is not assisting lawyers, she enjoys writing fiction, singing with a local chorale, and writing biographies for shelter cats in need of adoption.
